About Us

Mission Statement

The National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association (NAPIPA) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting justice and to advancing the interests of prosecutors of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) heritage. The Association serves to organize the efforts of API prosecutors for the collective benefit of the American criminal justice system and of the legal profession. To that end, we advocate for fairness, equality and justice for victims of crime, for the criminally accused, for those working within the criminal justice system, and for the community at large.

Goals

To develop an information network relevant to the needs of API law enforcement personnel
To seek out, encourage and support API law students and attorneys interested in pursuing careers in law enforcement
To provide training, both academic and practical, concerning a wide variety of law enforcement-related topics of interest
To educate the API community regarding the criminal justice system and provide a forum for communicating the community’s needs and concerns
To promote, strengthen and support the roles of API in all aspects of law enforcement

Regional Chapters

NAPIPA currently consists of eight Regional Chapters:

The Regional Chapters exist in order to better serve their respective local API communities. Each Regional Chapter has its own President and these Regional Chapter Presidents form the National Executive Board.

Of course, members are welcome from anywhere in the United States.

If a member would like to form a Regional Chapter from his or her area, he or she may petition the National Executive Board once he or she obtains 10 voting members in his or her region.

Co-Founder’s Message

In 2010, a group of local, state, and federal Asian Pacific Islander (API) prosecutors from the San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley Area met for dinner. We discussed our common experiences, triumphs, and struggles. It was apparent that we all shared a deep passion for our profession and the pursuit of justice. We also discussed the importance of our shared heritage and belief in contributing to our respective communities.

To more fully realize this ideal, we discussed establishing a professional organization of API prosecutors that would: (1) assist API prosecutors through training, mentorship, and positive encouragement and support; (2) provide opportunities for API prosecutors to meet and discuss issues of shared significance; and (3) provide outreach and education to our communities about the criminal justice system and the vital role that prosecutors play in that system.

California API prosecutors reached out to our brethren across the country. We found that a group with similar ideals and goals already existed in New York. Since then, a group of prosecutors from across the country have devoted considerable time, energy, and creativity to found the National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association (NAPIPA), a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization dedicated to benefiting all current and future API prosecutors, and their communities.

We hope that you will join us in our goal to become the best prosecutors we can be in order to best serve our communities and the justice system.

Best wishes,

Charles Huang

Co-founder and President ('10-'14) of NAPIPA
