A Portrait of Asian Americans & the Law

  • In 2017 California Supreme Court Justice, and NAPIPA Honorary Member, Goodwin Liu along with recent Yale law graduates Eric Chung, Xionan April Hu, Christine Kwon, and Yale law postgraduate associate Samuel Dong authored A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law, the first-ever comprehensive study of Asian Americans in the legal profession.

  • In 2022 an updated version was put together by Tyler Dang, Katherine Fang, Benji Lu, Michael Tayag & Goodwin Liu, American Bar Foundation & National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

A couple of notable statistics:

  • -In 2019 there were 2,396 elected prosecutors in the United States. 8 were Asian Americans.

  • -In 2022 there were 93 Presidentially appointed United States Attorneys. 0 were Asian Americans.

The National Asian Pacific Islander Prosecutors Association (NAPIPA) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting justice and to advancing the interests of prosecutors of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) heritage.
